The conversion, and the roll that matters
dollars = dimes × 0.10
A dime is 10 cents, so ten dimes make a dollar. To go the other way, multiply dollars by 10 to get the number of dimes. The unit that trips people up is the bank roll: 50 dimes, worth exactly $5.00 — not a round 100.

Small coin, easy to misjudge
- Smaller than a penny. A dime is 17.91 mm across, narrower than the 19.05 mm penny, even though it is worth ten times as much.

- Pre-1965 dimes are different. Dimes from 1946–1964 are 90% silver and worth well above face value to collectors; modern ones are copper-nickel.
