Common questions

How is EER different from TDEE?

EER uses the IOM Dietary Reference Intake equations rather than the more common Mifflin-St Jeor approach. Both estimate maintenance calories, just with different formulas.

Why does pregnancy use a separate formula?

Energy needs rise during pregnancy and lactation, so the DRIs add stage-specific amounts on top of the base requirement.
